Over 30 years ago, a number of Charlotte area congregations birthed the idea of creating one central community resource to serve people experiencing financial emergencies. Out of this vision, Crisis Assistance Ministry was born, meeting the urgent needs of people faced with financial crisis.

Since its founding, the agency has grown from a small outfit in a church basement to an operation supported by individuals, businesses, foundations and the United Way, as well as being contracted by Mecklenburg County to distribute government funds. But our strongest supporters remain the faith community and the vision of its faith leaders. We are blessed by the generosity of over 200 congregations.

We are an extension of the faith community's own ministries to our neighbors in need. By bringing together our financial resources, volunteers, creativity and vision, we can work to alleviate poverty in our community.
