Our Mission: Advocacy

The mission of Crisis Assistance Ministry is to lead efforts to inform, educate and inspire our community to action.

Each day, Crisis Assistance Ministry works to provide emergency relief to families facing financial crises. While this is our most immediate and visible role in the community, we are also dedicated to serving as an advocate for those living in poverty, motivating action, inspiring justice and forging change within our community.

Education

Advocacy comes in two distinct parts. The first is education. Our staff members regularly seek to educate our community about issues of poverty by serving on boards, doing interviews, speaking with faith communities and school groups, meeting with elected officials, and conducting poverty simulations.

Championing initiatives

The second part of advocacy involves identifying and championing local, statewide and national initiatives that support the people we serve. Comprised of agency staff, concerned community members and individuals from several partner agencies, the Advocacy Committee at Crisis Assistance Ministry spearheads this effort. Our current focus is on transportation, affordable housing and LIHEAP.
