For a limited time, special funding is available to help Mecklenburg County households pay rent and utility bills. While county residents can always seek emergency financial assistance at Crisis Assistance Ministry, additional funds are available through June 30 to assist families in need.
“Whether the dollar figure on your power bill is double your typical month or you’re behind on the rent – that’s overwhelming,” said Liana Humphrey, spokesperson for the nonprofit agency. “But help is available for many who are struggling to make ends meet.”
Help is available
Despite the arrival of warmer weather, many area households are still playing catch-up on winter energy usage and face daunting utility bills as temperatures continue to climb. At the same time, rising rents in Charlotte are stretching household budgets and leaving less room for unexpected expenses or loss of income. Crisis Assistance Ministry wants individuals and families to know that help is available to keep them in their homes with utilities flowing.
“No one should be camping in their own homes without power and water,” says Humphrey. “Or worse, facing the threat of homelessness due to eviction.”
