Debbie Is One Happy Soul

"I know what we are doing here is helping. It makes my soul happy," says Debbie, who has found the perfect fit as a volunteer preparing donated items for Free Store shoppers.

October 8, 2020

“I know what we are doing here is helping. It makes my soul happy.”

Debbie was among the first volunteers back to help prepare donated items for Free Store shoppers.

A recent widower, Debbie first volunteered with her daughter and granddaughter through Mecklenburg Community Church. Before long, they were spending every Friday inspecting, organizing, and stocking donated items.

Debbie loves to organize, so it’s a perfect fit.“The people who work there are really fun and keep you busy,” she says. “Besides, if you didn’t have a lot of volunteers you could never get it all done. When I look at all the donations coming in, I just marvel at how much people give.”

She’s right. The generosity of donors like you and volunteers like Debbie make it possible for struggling families to shop free-of-charge for essentials like shoes, warm coats, school uniforms, and household goods. Thank you.
